Report: US sanctions allow Russia to service USD debts till May-end

WASHINGTON, Mar 17 (PRIME) -- Western sanctions do not prohibit Russia from servicing its sovereign debt at least until the end of May, Bloomberg reported late on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, Russia was to pay coupons totaling U.S. $117.2 million on two issues of its Eurobonds, and the Finance Ministry said on Monday that it had issued the corresponding payment orders to agent banks.

Bloomberg reported quoting a U.S. Department of the Treasury spokesperson, who wished for his name to remain undisclosed, that the department’s restrictions on deals with the Russian central bank and other banks of the country do not prohibit Moscow from paying on its U.S. dollar debt for at least until the end of May.
